posted Sunday, 12 October 2008 There is this notion popular in fundamentalist circles that we must somehow become bond-slaves to God, by which they mean their own version of God who damns and binds people to hell for being on the wrong side of the world 1,000 years ago and never having an opportunity to hear about their version of the life and times of Jesus. By making yourselves a bond-slave to God, so the notion goes, we somehow become free. They then set up a false choice between self and their version of God so that anyone who refuses to embrace their version of Jesus is somehow selfish and uncaring. By contrast, Progressivism teaches that humanity is the measure of all things.
