SC/STs to lay siege to Secretariat

Demand at least one acre for each family Plea to waive loans taken by SC/ST KOZHIKODE: The SC-ST Coordination Committee, an umbrella organisation of more than 30 bodies of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, is planning a blockade of the Secretariat and Collectorates on November 5 to press its demands for a second land reform in the State and an SC/ST development policy. Punnala Sreekumar, general convener of the committee, and M. Geetanandan, State coordinator, land reforms committee, told reporters here on Friday that the committee would mobilise nearly 20 lakh people as part of its ‘second land reform procession’ which began in Kasaragod on Friday and would conclude at Neyyattinkara near Thiruvananthapuram on November 1 and the blockade.
