Exploring Flushing's John Bowne House

On Sept. 23, a dialogue entitled "Discovering John Bowne: Archaeology, Architecture and Flushing's Beginnings" took place in LeFrak Music Hall. One of Queens College's distinguished professors, Dr. James Moore, narrated his experience of the archaeological exploration of the John Bowne House in Flushing, N.Y. "John Bowne was an important figure at a time when Stuyvesant forbade religion," explained professor James Moore. Bowne, a man who proudly stood for religious tolerance, allowed his home to be transformed into a meeting place for the Quakers in Flushing to unite and plan against Stuyvesant.
