Wall St rallies to close down 1.5pc

The US stock market has posted its eighth straight day of losses as investor fears persist about the financial crisis triggering global recession. It was another roller-coaster rise on Wall Street. Just after the opening bell the Dow Jones Industrial Average had plunged nearly 700 points. A burst of buying then sent it rocketing more than 100 points ahead.
