By Bill Koch • bkoch@enquirer.com • October 10, 2008 After two years of picking up the pieces of a badly crippled University of Cincinnati basketball program, Mick Cronin is looking forward this season to coaching a more talented team with a realistic chance to compete successfully in the Big East Conference. The Bearcats have gone 24-39 in Cronin’s first two years as head coach, 10-24 in the Big East. “I knew the first two years were going to be brutally tough,” Cronin said. “We were able to put a team together and our fans see a team but although those guys played valiantly, we did not have Big East-caliber talent. “Now we’re transitioning to where we’re going to have a chance to compete in the Big East because we’ve been able to get enough talent.” UC, which finished 13-19 last year, went 8-10 in the Big East, an...
