Conflict complaint could hamper mayor’s deal

Experts say Mayor Bloomberg’s promise to appoint Ronald Lauder to the charter commission in return for his support on term limits bill could run afoul of the Conflicts of Interest Board. Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s spokesman promptly described it as a “political stunt,” but a complaint filed with the Conflicts of Interest Board about the term limits controversy might have merit, academics say. Watchdog group Common Cause/NY asked the board to rule on whether the mayor can promise billionaire Ronald Lauder a seat on a City Charter Revision Commission in exchange for Mr. Lauder’s support for a bill extending term limits.
