Surprise! Stocks Get Positive in Final Hour (at CNBC)

WALL STREET, STOCKS, DOW JONES, NASDAQ, S&P, BANKS, GENERAL ELECTRIC, EARNINGS, MORGAN STANLEY, GOLDMAN SACHS, CAPITULATION, LIQUIDATION, JIM ROGERS The stock market's wickedly volatile week was winding to a rather unremarkable close, as averages pared much of the day's losses but were still down more than 20 percent for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average turned slightly positive amid a record slide . Surprisingly strong back stocks had been holding forth and surged in the final hour. The market made an aggressive move towards positive numbers late in the afternoon, setting off a roar on the New York Stock Exchange floor.
