Students hold unique memorial for beloved teacher

By JEFF SEIDEL • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER • October 10, 2008 More than 270 students gathered around Principal Tony Kruzman this afternoon on a hill behind Pine Lake Elementary School in Orchard Lake, as they remembered second-grade teacher Bob Schrupp, who died in an Oct. 2 car crash. “Think of a happy thought for Mr. Schrupp,” Kruzman told the children. “We want you to blow some bubbles and say it out loud.” Kruzman dipped a wand into the container. “Mr. Shrupp was a wonderful teacher,” Kruzman said and blew bubbles into the air. “Let’s fill the sky with happy thoughts.” Schrupp, 48, taught in the Bloomfield Hills School District for 22 years. He left behind his wife, Linda, four children, and hundreds of students and parents who loved him. He was described as the heart and soul of Pine Lake Elementary. And his death was the...
