NEW YORK — In another roller-coaster day on Wall Street, stocks continued their historic downward plunge as investors fled stocks to get out of the way of a bruising bear market. The heavy selling carried over from Thursday's late-day plunge to the start of trading Friday. The Dow Jones industrial average plunged almost 700 points right at the open, mounted a full recovery that put the Dow in the black for a few minutes, before selling off again. At 2:00 ET, the Dow was down 556 points to 8023, extending its year-to-date losses to 39.5%.
