We have in this household a friend from Manhattan who was a mentor to Her Highness, the love of my life, when several decades ago she crossed the Hudson River, with NYU diploma in hand, to Jersey and secured the first and only teaching job for which she ever applied. This friend is a life-long lesbian, affluent, highly educated, amazingly talented and politically active. She embodies the full stereotypical Upper West Side New Yorker of left-wing politics, bohemian culture, arts board membership and upper middle-class wealth. Our friend has long been active in Democratic politics and supportive of Hillary Clinton’s campaigns for the Senate and Presidency.
