City Of Ember (Movie Review)

by Howie Green EDGE Contributor Harry Treadaway and Saoirse Ronan as Droon and Lina (Source:20th Century Fox) Fans of Jeanne Duprau’s series of children’s adventure novels will be relieved to know that in City Of Ember, "Monster House" director Gil Kenan does a great job of creating the underground city and the characters that populate it and the book. Even though Duprau’s 12-year-old protag Droon (Harry Treadaway) looks to be about 18 and Lina (Saoirse Ronan) about 14, Kenan does a wonderful job of creating the underground city in a believable way without resorting to the standard CGI trickery. Ember has existed underground for over 200 years and it’s a filthy mess.
