Farmers' hopes fall with crop prices Megan Myers • memyers@argusleader.com • October 10, 2008 This harvest season, South Dakota farmers are feeling a little queasy about fluctuating crop prices and uncertain yield predictions. The season has included its share of bumps, including a wet spring that delayed planting and midsummer storms that caused wind damage in some parts of the state. The rising costs of fuel and fertilizer also have taken a toll. But strong corn and soybean prices kept farmers optimistic. Corn prices are close to what farmers fetched at last year's harvest but down from highs seen earlier this summer. On Thursday, corn for December delivery closed at $4.37 a bushel, down from its record high of $7.99 on June 27.
