Peseiro reappointed as Rapid Bucharest coach

Romanian club makes extraordinary climb-down Jose Peseiro insists he was not sacked as coach of Rapid Bucharest, after a spokesman from the Romanian club confirmed that the Portuguese would continue at the helm. The former Sporting boss was thought to have been dismissed following Rapid’s elimination from the Uefa Cup last week, with club owner Fatih Teher announcing that Peseiro “was no longer the coach” and that the 48-year-old’s duties would temporarily be covered by other members of staff. However, it is thought that in order to avoid paying expensive compensation to the man hired on a three-year deal over the summer, Rapid had merely suspended Peseiro from first-team responsibilities.
