Currying favour for Gem of a night

THE latest Gem Appeal fund-raising event brought together the king of rock ‘n’ roll with a star of a BBC drama to raise more than £2,000 for the charity. The Curry Cabaret at the India Lounge in Spotland Road, Rochdale was attended by almost 90 guests, including Gem founder Karen Johnson and her husband Peter, who compered the evening. Diners were entertained by Anthony Rydel, who performed a number of Elvis and Neil Diamond tracks, and Herman’s Hermits tribute act Damon Noone.
