Council ponies up more funds for USS New Hampshire commissioning

Article Date: Friday, October 10, 2008 PORTSMOUTH — Besides its in-kind donation of city services for the commissioning events scheduled for the USS New Hampshire on Oct. 25, Port City officials have once again answered the call for donations and plan to provide $5,000 to the statewide celebration. Mayor Tom Ferrini and the City Council unanimously voted to donate the money at its Monday night meeting. "We just wanted to make sure the commissioning is a success and it's our hope that by us doing a little bit more than an in-kind donation, other communities will follow suit," Ferrini said. Councilor Ken Smith, who worked with Ferrini to bring the need for added money to the attention of the council, said he hopes surrounding communities will do what they can to help out as well.
