Garvin Gate blues fest is back

Organizers hope to draw more crowds to Old Louisville Last year, the Garvin Gate Blues Festival was returned to its rightful location in Old Louisville after 10 years of wandering. Nearly 6,000 people came out to celebrate, which proved to organizers that the festival belonged at Garvin Place. "We were pleasantly surprised," said Howard Rosenberg, who was a charter volunteer for the original fest. "Obviously, we didn't reach the same level as we had when it ended, which was 20,000. "This year we made a focused effort (to advertise), and I think we've really spread the word that we're back." The free festival is from 6:30 to 11 p.m. today and from 2:30 to 11 p.m. tomorrow on Oak Street between Fourth and Sixth streets.
