Cop bust for imprisoning developer

Sean Twala, the police officer found guilty on charges of intimidation, attempted extortion and defeating the ends of justice, faces a jail sentence of four years. Twala, a police officer assigned to an anti-hijacking team in the Johannesburg inner city, allegedly became involved in the hijacking of buildings. He was charged after a property developer, Mike Lingwood, tried to evict a woman who had purchased a property from him in the south of Johannesburg and refused to vacate the property after a legal technicality invalidated the sale. Lingwood evicted her, and she allegedly paid Twala R3 000 to stop the eviction. After an altercation in which blows were traded, Twala arrested Lingwood, threw him in jail and disappeared.
