'A good little combo'

By NICOLE PENSIERO • For the Courier-Post • October 10, 2008 They're hardly a household name, but New Orleans' The Iguanas have become one of the most popular bands in one of the world's most musical cities since forming nearly 20 years ago. The group -- led by multi-instrumentalists/vocalists Rod Hodges and Joe Cabral -- performs at Philadelphia's World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St., tonight. The band melds Latin and Caribbean rhythms with jazz and blues, resulting in an enticing musical mix. The Iguanas are touring in support of their first CD in five years, "If You Should Ever Fall on Hard Times," which bassist Rene Coman says "is a continuation of the sound we're known for, with some nice sonic additions."
