After 8,000 miles and £12m for charity, Sir Ian Botham is on the march again It's 23 years since I first hit the road to raise cash for Leukaemia Research. And today, as I creak off on my latest footslog, I'm happy to say that it has been worth every toe-blistering mile. The lives of patients have changed beyond measure. Back in 1985, children had just a 20 per cent chance of survival. Now it is an incredible 86 per cent. And it's all thanks to the money YOU have donated. On each walk I see living proof of the huge strides we have taken - former patients who were in wheelchairs and prams when I first met them. Now I'm struggling to keep up with them as they join me on the road - some with children of their own who would never have been born if it hadn't been for the crucial research into this cruel disease.
