UA stadium expansion supported by president

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 10.10.2008 The proposed expansion of Arizona Stadium has Robert Shelton's support. Speaking to the Star's editorial board Thursday, the UA president said he is "all for" a plan to enclose the north end zone with football offices and add around 6,000 seats. "The plans aren't on steroids," Shelton said. Stadium expansion would be financed by private donations to the UA's athletic department. The athletic department is financially self-sufficient from the university, which is examining plans that could combine or eliminate some academic departments. "The key here is helping people understand money can be segregated," Shelton said. Two weeks ago, the Arizona Board of Regents approved a two-year capital plan forecast that outlined possible construction projects during fiscal years 2011 and 2012. The...
