The 50-year-old Welshman is the clear front-runner in the battle to win the John Jacobs Trophy with his £235,500 in earnings more than £10,000 clear of Bernhard Langer. And the £23,500 on offer to the winner of the Italian Seniors Open teeing off today at the Palazzo Arzaga Resort would give the winning 2006 Ryder Cup captain an almost unassailable lead over the German and third-placed Gordon J Brand.
