Fruitful trip home for Rivers

The C’s coach missed the preseason opening loss to Philadelphia to attend a hearing in Orlando, Fla., on behalf of Adam Jones, a 17-year-old who has lived with the Rivers family intermittently over the last three years. Jones also happens to be a talented basketball player, and an AAU teammate of Rivers’ 16-year-old son Austin. As such, the hearing was held to weigh Jones’ merits as a student against his eligibility as an athlete at Winter Park High School. “They asked why his grades were so bad last year, and he said, ‘I was more concerned with how I was going to get something to eat and where to sleep at the time,’ ” Rivers said after...
