Smith had his first victory taken away because NASCAR ruled that he went below the yellow line to pass Stewart as they came around the final turn. The rookie driver, as well as many others in the garage, was under the impression that he could go below the yellow line to pass if forced there. NASCAR ruled that he was not forced even though Smith had a nose under Stewart's car before going below the line.
