Smith disagrees with Talladega yellow line penalty

might have finished Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway in the infield hospital instead of Victory Lane. Smith had his first victory taken away because NASCAR ruled that he went below the yellow line to pass Stewart as they came around the final turn. The rookie driver, as well as many others in the garage, was under the impression that he could go below the yellow line to pass if forced there. NASCAR ruled that he was not forced even though Smith had a nose under Stewart's car before going below the line. The governing body came back later in the week to say that no passing is allowed below the yellow line, period, even though Dale Earnhardt Jr. won a Cup race in 2003 passing Matt Kenseth below the yellow line and Johnny Benson passed below the line for second in a 2007 Truck Series race at Daytona.
