"Now is the time"

The setting was eerie. It was dark in the sitting room, a sitting room I wasn't quite familiar with. The colors were quite somber, the background was blurred and the general atmosphere was vague. mom: I have breast cancer and it's quite advanced. me: so what do you mean? mom: I mean there is no hope... And words failed me. The most harrowing seconds of my life followed. I was trying to fathom the idea that my mother was dying. Yet fathom it I couldn't. I looked around and everybody was there. My father, my brother and my sister. I searched in their eyes for some thing, whatever, anything. It wasn't there. Then I realized they were silent, motionless, like poker-faced mannequins.
