Yorkton resident saw Hurricane Ike damage firsthand

Joanne McClenaghan, a disaster management instructor and volunteer for the Canadian Red Cross, arrived home in Yorkton on Thursday after spending the last three weeks helping people in Houston after Hurricane Ike rolled through. Ike devastated Houston and Galveston in mid-September. McClenaghan volunteered right away with the American Red Cross to help residents who lost homes. She helped set up a mega-shelter in Houston and worked in an information booth, talking to people one on one and answering phones. "Right from the start we wanted our clients to get the right information because very often people get sent here, there and everywhere after a disaster," McClenaghan said. Neighborhood Centers...
