A Senate inquiry into academic freedom is stirring passion about the presence of political bias in Australia's schools and universities. Some have labelled it a right-wing witch hunt, while others say there is too much anti-conservative influence among academics. At a hearing in Sydney, controversial historian Keith Windschuttle criticised the way academics have depicted the plight of Aborigines, but warned politicians that their advice and influence had no place in Australian universities.
