Dish pays TiVo $105M for DVR patent infringement

ALVISO, Calif. - TiVo Inc., a pioneer in digital video recorders, said Thursday it received $105 million in damages from Dish Network Corp. for violating a patent. The payment, made Wednesday, followed the U.S. Supreme Court's refusal Monday to disturb a lower court ruling in TiVo's favor. The initial award was for $74 million, and the remainder is for supplemental damages and interest, according to TiVo. TiVo said it welcomed the payment but believed Dish, formerly known as EchoStar Communications Corp., has continued to violate TiVo's patent, which could result in additional damages if the courts agree.
