Portion of State Street to be closed

As part of push to finish Gateway Connector by 2010 By Bill Byrd Times West Virginian FAIRMONT — A push to finish the Gateway Connector Highway by the end of 2010 means the lower portion of State Street from near the High Level Bridge and Merchant Street to Haymond Street will be closed to traffic for the next two years, officials said. Traffic coming into the downtown on State Street will be diverted onto Haymond Street and then to Morgantown Avenue under a plan released Wednesday. Closing that part of State Street will allow contractors to build the four-lane highway faster. It will give them the space they need to coordinate their efforts, said Danny Donlin, a DOH district construction engineer.
