IT would be naive to think of India of the near future simply as one without power cuts, what with nuclear-generated power meeting the shortage. Much more will happen as a result of the Indo-US civil nuclear deal. In the next few years, India will be in the buyer's market, signing deals to purchase nuclear reactors to generate anything between 30,000 mega-watts to 60,000MW of energy. Reports emanating from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's United States visit are that India may have indicated to the US a third of the pie. Still there is enough for France, Russia, Austria, and whoever else wants to sell them. It's a big pie, estimated at anything between US$100 billion and US$175 billion (RM350 billion and RM500 billion).
