UT Jazz Ensemble holds tribute concert for Toledo jazz musician Jimmy Cook If the music is a reflection of the man then Jimmy Cook was a swingin' kind of guy. With standing room only, the UT Jazz Ensemble paid tribute to the late musician with "Celebrating Jimmy: A Tribute to Jazz Legend Jimmy Cook." Cook, who had been diagnosed with cancer, passed away on May 9, 2008 of a heart attack. The event was held Tuesday at the Center for Performing Arts and featured nine of Cook's favorite swing and jazz songs, including "We Dot" by J.J. Johnson and "Anthropology" by Charlie Parker. Over 300 people attended the event, including students, faculty and community members along with Cook's friends and family.
