Posted to the web 9 October 2008 Mark Smit Johannesburg South African cricket authorities are planning to have a version of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 tournament in place by the 2009-2010 season. Cricket SA's (CSA's) Gerald Majola said he met his fellow CEOs from the six South African franchises on Tuesday "to discuss a way forward and this was one of the items on the agenda". The IPL sparked huge interest earlier this year, with players being auctioned and commanding huge prices for their services from top Indian show business personalities and corporations. Asked how SA could possibly match the kind of money that was being paid in the IPL, especially with the rand-dollar exchange rate as it is, Majola said: "You would be surprised.
