I make no apology for making a Paul Newman film my movie of the week in the week when the media is full of tributes following the sad news of his death. Newman lit up any film he appeared in and featured in so many of the iconic movies of the last 50 years that it's hard to single out any one for special mention. He was one of those few actors you would turn up to see simply because he was in something; it really didn't matter what the subject was. From Torn Curtain through Cool Hand Luke, The Hustler (and its sequel The Color of Money), Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, The Sting, right up to his last performance as the voice of Doc Hudson in Cars (and its spin-off), Newman was a consummate professional and a luminous presence.
