Storms don't affect Florida snapper catch

Sun Sentinel Comment on this story POMPANO BEACH, FLA. - Fall is typically a good time of year to catch snapper in South Florida, and the four tropical storms that roughed up the region's waters over the past month have made bottom fishing better than usual. The snapper bite has been good since Tropical Storm Fay slogged through the region, and it has remained strong in the wake of Gustav, Hanna and Ike. "There's always snappers around," said Skip Dana of the Helen S and Fish City Pride drift boats, which sail out of Hillsboro Inlet Marina in Pompano Beach. "We have two real good snapper bites in April and May, then they'll slack off until this time of year through November. "Since Fay, the snapper fishing has been red-hot."
