Posted to the web 9 October 2008 Maputo The independent Mozambican media company SOICO has relaunched its weekly paper "O Pais" as a daily. Printed on a new press in the southern city f Matola, the first issue of the daily "O Pais" hit the streets on Tuesday. In Maputo, it sold out in a couple of hours. "O Pais" is in direct competition with the Maputo daily "Noticias". Both sell at the same price of 15 meticais (62 US cents), but there is much more to read in "O Pais". It is a 32 page full colour tabloid, while "Noticias" is a broadsheet, usually with 24 pages - but 14 of these pages are advertising. The only other daily paper in the country is the Beira-based "Diario de Mocambique", which circulates mainly in the central provinces, and has a cover price of ten meticais.
