That fall, the goaltender, a ninth- round draft pick of the Nordiques in 1994, was in the main camp with the Avalanche (the team had relocated from Quebec) at McNichols Sports Arena, having passed through the rookie camp in Hershey, Pa. Thomas thought he was competing for a job. But the Colorado camp didn't turn out the way the Bruins goalie had hoped.
