Wings face tougher road in improved Western Conference BY GEORGE SIPPLE • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • October 9, 2008 The Red Wings know it won't be easy to repeat as Stanley Cup champions, especially since several teams in the NHL's Western Conference have made moves to get better. "On paper, I just think there's a lot of good teams in the West, and there's a lot of potential," said Wings general manager Ken Holland. "Chicago's got a lot of potential. They've got kids. You know Dallas is good, you know Anaheim and San Jose are good. "Most nights, you're going to be involved in a game that goes down to the wire. There's going to be 10 games where the outcome is probably decided before the third period, but we're all going to be involved in 70 playoff games before the playoffs start."
