Bishops chide Ritter on view of personhood

By Tim Hoover The Denver Post The archbishop of Denver on Wednesday publicly scolded Gov. Bill Ritter — a self-described "pro-life" Catholic — for comments he made about whether a fertilized egg is a person. In a statement given to news outlets, Archbishop Charles Chaput, along with Auxiliary Bishop James Conley, said Ritter's comments on Amendment 48 "seriously confused" the issue. The November ballot's Amendment 48 would declare that a fertilized egg is a person. The Democratic governor on Tuesday appeared at a rally with medical professionals and others to denounce the ballot issue, saying it was bad public policy that could endanger the health of women.
