I think we've seen that the Market is a bad idea, only good for enriching a few elite players while robbing everyone else blind. When Capitalism was first put forward as The Big Idea by Keynes he said that it could only work if those who monitored it and engaged in it at the highest levels were men of impeccable moral character, never given to bribery or greed. Indeed, just as there are those who say true Communism has never been tried I'm sure there are those who will later look back at this mess of deregulation and claim that true Capitalism is yet to be seen on this planet.
