Dragon Boat Regatta moves to Sugar Land

By Corey Roepken The Daily News Published October 9, 2008 The fifth annual Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta will move from the Bay Area to Sugar Land for the first time next weekend. The yearly races had been contested on Pasadena Lake, but damage sustained during Hurricane Ike has forced the Texas Dragon Boat Association to relocate the event. Now, it will take place Oct. 18-19 at Fluor Corp. It still will feature up to 50 teams with divisions for amateur and experienced teams. Races will be contested from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Admission is free to the public. The focus of this year’s regatta is breast cancer survivors. The TDBA has recruited teams made up solely of cancer survivors.
