Young Blackhawks hope to make postseason

CHICAGO - A resurgent, young Chicago Blackhawks may not be ready to contend for the Stanley Cup, but they expect to climb back into the postseason. The Blackhawks, which fell three points short of the making the playoffs, open this season Friday in New York against the Rangers. Chicago has failed to qualify for postseason play in the last five seasons and nine of the last 10. But optimism is high after key offseason deals and a 5-1-2 preseason. "Obviously our preseason was decent," coach Denis Savard said. "I like our team. We've added some youth, plus we're going to have a lot of skill and speed." And fans are interested.
