After all that talk about who would pick up the final roster spot for the opening bout of Detroit's Stanley Cup defense, an injury and salary cap restrictions decided the answer was no one. To hear Mike Babcock tell it, it had nothing to do with Ville Leino or Darren Helm's abilities - he told the Detroit Free Press that they were some of the best players that he's ever been involved in sending to the minors. Hearing that kind of praise, it sounds like it won't be long until one or both of them make another appearance in Detroit as the rigors of hockey combined with a short summer will bring on injuries and matchups with dynamic opponents that might require Leino's skill or Helm's speed.
