Union urges boycott of Beaconsfield musical

Tuesday October 7, 2008, 1:06 pm The union representing Beaconsfield miners is urging people not to attend a musical about the 2006 tragedy. The Melbourne fringe performance of Beaconsfield: A Musical in A-Flat Minor has been criticised by miners and the family of Larry Knight, who died in the rockfall. Creator Dan Ilic says he did not intend to treat Knight's death with disrespect, but wanted to highlight the way the media behaved during the event. Australian Workers Union's (AWU) national secretary Paul Howes says the Beaconsfield disaster was traumatic and should not be the subject of a comedy show.
