Paying Parents for School Involvement

by KYW's Dr. Marciene Mattleman Paulette Wiley, an education activist in Des Moines, Iowa, decided that if parents were paid to attend school meetings, they’d respond. While paying kids for good grades is no longer rare, for parents it’s quite unique. So, for $25 parents came to the meetings and Wiley was surprised at their levels of upset regarding their kids’ education and the lack of connection they feel with their schools.
