One of the most successful, long-standing outreach programs at ASU builds on a key family dynamic: strengthening the bond between a teenage girl and her parent. The ASU Hispanic Mother-Daughter Program is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, having helped thousands of young women finish high school and attend college. All participants, who are first-generation students, make a 10-year commitment in the eighth grade to attend ASU workshops with their mothers and learn the skills needed to succeed. Eileana Felix remembers those 30-minute bus rides with her mother from Creighton School in Phoenix to ASU as a highlight of the program.
