Coffeehouses offer up more than lattes and muffins

And many coffeehouses in South Jersey play host to both concerts and bean caffeine, brewing up a half-and-half blend that keeps patrons -- and, well, freeloaders -- coming back for more. While owners may tap into the occasional trend -- like pulling all-nighters with students near exam time or rushing out a new line of flavored iced drinks -- many rule their business under one credo: There is no substitute for live music. "We run it like a nightclub," co-owner Vic Martinson said of his Pitman-based Bus Stop Music Cafe.
