Glance: Banks bailed out so far in credit crisis

The credit crisis sparked a year ago by the collapse of the U.S. housing market has forced governments around the world to bail out several banks and financial companies. Here's a list of the financial institutions rescued so far in 2008: _ Oct. 5, 2008: Hypo Real Estate, a German mortgage lender, is bailed out partially by the German government and partially by other banks, for a package of at least $69 billion; $21 billion from state coffers. _ Oct. 3, 2008: The Dutch government seizes the operations of Belgium-based bank Fortis NV in the Netherlands and then on Oct. 5 Belgium arranges for BNP Paribas, the French bank, to take control of the company for about $20 billion.
