(BBC1) Bumped from the regular Wednesday slot by the return of Silent Witness, this last in the current series of the popular genealogy show sees interior designer and TV presenter Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen go in search of his nautical roots. Brought up in London and not exactly the embodiment of the rugged outdoorsy type, Llewelyn-Bowen nonetheless claims a strong emotional attachment to the sea. No surprise then that he discovers master mariners on both his mother’s and father’s side of the family tree: a heroic maternal grandfather who served in the Merchant Navy during both world wars, and a rather more adventurous chap on his father’s side who jumped ship in Australia in 1855 to join the great Melbourne gold rush, yet when he failed to hit the mother lode covered his tracks...
