He co-founded the renowned investment banking firm Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ), served as Under Secretary of State to Henry Kissinger, was special advisor to Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, served as Chairman and CEO of Aetna, Chairman and CEO of the New York Stock Exchange, of Donaldson Enterprises, and the investment banking firm Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. He helped found the Yale School of Management where he was its first Dean and Professor of Management and was also a rifle platoon commander in the United States Marine Corps.
