Jennifer Granholm has set a time and place for Sept. 3 in Detroit to decide whether to remove Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick from office. The announcement of a 9 a.m. hearing at the Cadillac Place state office building gave yet more momentum to a showdown between the governor and the mayor, after she said Wednesday she would personally preside over any hearing. The posting of the hearing came hours after Kilpatrick was jailed for violating conditions of his bond on his perjury case. Granholm would not comment on Kilpatrick’s jailing. Granholm has previously hedged, saying she’d conduct a hearing if she determines there’s sufficient evidence. Now, it appears she’ll proceed to judge Kilpatrick in a quasi-judicial role.
