Nine People Feared Dead In California Firefighting Helicopter Crash (AP) Fire raging through rugged, dense terrain is complicating rescuers' efforts to recover victims and evidence Thursday from the remote part of a Northern California forest where a firefighting helicopter crashed and nine people were presumed dead. The helicopter was carrying 11 firefighters and two crew members when it went down Tuesday night deep in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest and was destroyed by fire, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
